Movimientos populares en Nueva España
Michoacán, 1766-1767
ISBN 968-36-1234-2
About the popular movements occurred on different places of the New Spain during the 1766, and aggravated on the next year because of the expulsion of the Jesuits, and the hard repression they suffer- affirm Felipe Castro in his prologue- have been adopted many different positions. From said the uprising was spontaneous protest with an unusual and excessive punishment, till those who –for example José de Galvéz, executor of the repression- were convinced that it was a conspiracy. To get to know what happen besides of the testimony of Galvéz, there is also a few investigations about the occurred in San Luis Potosí and Guanajuato. However, says the author, there’s not much information about what occurred in Michoacán, because of the inexistent founts to confront the version of José Galvéz. It’s because of that Felipe Castro make a research in national and foreign archives. Along these four chapters, Castro has “frequently transferred the word to the witness”, because he finds opportune to not become into an “undesired” and inopportune intermediary between the document and the reader.
